If you Google ZERO WASTE, this will be your first result - “Zero Waste is a set of principles focused on waste prevention that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. The goal is for no trash to be sent to landfills, incinerators or the ocean. Currently, only 9% of plastic is actually recycled.” (Source - Wikipedia)

Why is Zero Waste the important?

It is because this lifestyle will help save our planet. That is the simplest way to put it.

How can you contribute?

Here are 5 simple yet effective ways to give something back to the planet for its sacrifices.

BYOSnB

Bring your own straws and bottles. It is very easy actually. Buy steel straws from any local store or on amazon.com before going to a coffee shop or McDonald’s and get your own empty metal/glass bottle there. Even at your office, avoid using the disposable cups for your coffee and tea. Carry your own cups instead and keep it at your desk.

Stop using paper napkins and toilet paper

These create unnecessary waste which can be easily replaced by using a cloth and washing it before the next use.

STOP USING PLASTIC

This cannot be emphasized enough. We have n number of plastic containers at home. Replace them with glass. Store your tea leaves, sugar, cornflakes, dals, flours in glass containers. It looks very aesthetically pleasing too.

In circumstances where you cannot avoid plastic at all, it should be a total of not more than 10% of all your activities.

Menstruating persons, try new products

Use menstrual cups instead of sanitary napkins or tampons. An average menstrual cup lasts up to 10 years and you save so much money as it costs only 300-500 INR.

Electric toothbrush

99% of toothbrushes are not recycled. There are about 539700 tons of toothbrush waste/year.

Replace a normal toothbrush containing plastic and nylon with an electric toothbrush having replaceable heads.

It lasts about 10 years.

These are only a few ways to adopt a better lifestyle. You can find many more by deep diving into the internet. We just wish to help you a little bit and urge you to follow these suggestions.
