”At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.”
And so India rose to power as promised by Jawaharlal Nehru at the midnight of 15th August 1947.
Our first Prime Minister NehruJi unfurled the tricolour and gave the famous speech ,’Tryst with Destiny’ marking the end of a 200 year old British rule at midnight on the Red Fort in Delhi.
However Freedom came at the cost of partition . On 14 August 1947, the new Dominion of Pakistan came into being and Muhammad Ali Jinnah was sworn as the first Governor General in Karachi. Thus Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day (Yaum-e-Azadi) on 14th August.
India is emerging as one of the top most developing countries in the world, but how developed are we?
It’s been 71 years since our country gained freedom , but how free really are we?
Jai Hind .
